Shopping for Beds: Adjustable Options

Mattress shopping can be a daunting process. The options seem endless; waterbeds, airbeds, spring beds or adjustable beds. Where do you begin?

One of the first considerations is size. What size mattress suits you? Are you a minimalist with a twin size need, or are you looking to sprawl out in a massive California King? Or is it something in between? The option for mattress and bed support range in price and availability based upon size of the bed, size of the room and room required to set up the bed option.

Next, consider how you will use the bed. May seem an unusual question but we have a lifestyle that means we are checking email in bed, making phone calls before we get up, moving to the bedroom to catch the newest movie or favorite series. If you spend as much time in the bedroom as any other room of the house it is important to support the multi-tasking of the room. Can you adjust your bed to make working simpler, movie watching better or simply move the bed to make your legs stop aching after the long hike over the weekend.

One of the biggest considerations for bed shoppers is innerspring or alternative option. The ruling factor here must be about your ability to manage contact pressure. If you are active, and have no aches, pains or medical conditions the innerspring may be an option. For people who can’t change positions frequently, need elevation or want a supported sleep without pressure points, the innerspring isn’t the best choice.

If you decide that an alternative to innerspring is important then your options include memory foam, air, water and combinations of the same. Supporting the mattress can be a standard frame, an adjustable frame or a combination of the two. Style, design and décor are part of the decision for the frame of the bed. Adjustable beds now have standard frame options; some beds are more minimal without headboards and footboard framing. Even the Murphy-Bed offers options for the limited space shopper. Sit down with a list of your requirements; examine the needs for your room, your life before you head to the internet or shop for the bed. If you identify the lifestyle, capability, size and style of the bed then the selection process becomes far less daunting, and far more focused.

Identify the need for spring or no spring, adjustable or flat, with frame or without and then style and décor options can lead the rest of the decisions. Price points vary but a reputable mattress company will offer prices in budget to luxury ranges. Many companies offer financing or payment terms as well.

Check into warranties on motors, add on units such as heat or massage. Be certain you understand the conditions of delivery. Is set up included, will they remove old mattresses, what are the related charges for set up or removal.

With a minimal amount of planning finding just the right bed for your life and sleeping needs will be easier, economical and most of all comfortable for you unique needs.
